Wood edge banding technology

In the fields of wood processing and furniture manufacturing, edge banding and finishing techniques are like giving boards a delicate coat, making them more beautiful and practical. In this production process, the complete edge-banding plywood is produced through the joint efforts of edge band applicator, edge banding tools, edge banding glue and edge banding trimmer.

The edge banding glue is an important bridge connecting the edge banding strip and the board. Its performance directly determines the firmness and durability of the edge banding. Hot melt adhesive is currently the most widely used edge banding glue. EVA hot melt adhesive has the characteristics of good fluidity and rapid curing, and can form a stable bond in a short time. PUR hot melt adhesive features outstanding water resistance, high-temperature resistance and anti-aging properties, and is often used for edge banding of high-end furniture and board furniture in humid environments. In addition, new types of adhesives keep emerging, making new breakthroughs in both environmental friendliness and bonding strength.

The edge band applicator is the core equipment of the edge banding process and undertakes the dual tasks of gluing and laminating. It evenly applies the edge banding glue to the edge of the edge banding strip or board through the built-in precise system, ensuring that the glue is evenly distributed and there are no dead corners. Subsequently, with the help of a powerful pressing device, the edge banding strip is quickly and tightly adhered to the board under pressure and temperature. Different types of edge banding strip gluing and laminating machines are suitable for different scenarios. The fully automatic edge banding strip laminating machine can achieve continuous and efficient edge banding work and is suitable for large-scale industrial production. The semi-automatic edge banding strip laminating machine is more flexible and convenient for handling small-batch and diverse edge banding requirements.

Edge banding tools play an auxiliary and refined role in the edge banding process. Manual edge banding tools such as rubber hammers and rollers can be used to further compact the edges after the edge banding strips are initially adhered, ensuring a tight bond between the edge banding strips and the board and eliminating residual air. The rubber hammer can strike the edge banding with gentle force, enabling it to better adapt to the contour of the sheet. The pressure roller enhances the bonding force between the glue and the board by rolling. Electric edge banding tools such as hot air guns can locally heat the edge banding strips, soften the glue, and make it better penetrate and bond. They are especially suitable for processing edge banding areas with complex shapes. These tools complement the edge band applicator and jointly improve the initial installation process of the edge banding strip.

When the edge banding strips are fully adhered, the edge banding trimmer begins to function. It is equipped with a high-precision tool system that can precisely cut around the edge banding strip, remove excess parts, and perfectly integrate the edge banding strip with the board. The linear edge banding and trimming machine can quickly handle the excess linear edges through linear guides and high-speed rotating cutting tools. The curve edge banding and trimming machine relies on the advanced mechanical arm and intelligent control system to handle complex arcs and irregular edges. Some advanced edge trimming machines also have a polishing function. After cutting, they directly grind and polish the surface, making the surface of the edge banding strip present a fine and smooth texture, and completely eliminating the edge banding marks.

After the gluing and lamination of the above-mentioned edge banding applicator, the auxiliary processing of edge banding tools, the firm bonding of edge banding glue and the fine trimming of edge banding trimmer, Finally, edge banding plywood was formed. Edge banding plywood not only takes on a brand-new look in appearance, but also can adapt to various furniture design styles. In terms of performance, the edge-sealed boards effectively isolate external moisture and air, reduce the wear and collision of the board edges, and extend the service life of the plywood. The plywood that has undergone edge banding treatment has made a huge breakthrough both in appearance and in application.
